The Malhotra Group’s proposals for its New Northumbria Hotel will boost bed numbers at the prestigious venue by 20%, create 24 new jobs and create Jesmond’s first gin bar.
The proposed development will upgrade all existing hotel rooms, and include new apartment-style rooms.
Atul Malhotra, operations director of the Malhotra Group, said: “These exciting proposals for the New Northumbria Hotel will improve our offering at this first-class venue and help support our ambition to widen the hotel’s existing client base.
“We are also delighted to be creating the area’s first gin house which will offer an opportunity to relax and enjoy a friendly, sociable environment.”
“At the rear of Scalinis restaurant our aim is to enhance the existing hotel bar by transforming it into the brand new Jesmond Gin House.
“Our programme of internal refurbishment and upgrading of hotel rooms will enhance the client base with the aim of attracting more corporate, business and professional clientele, particularly for longer stays.”
The Malhotra Group has appointed the Newcastle office of national planning, design and economics consultancy Nathaniel Lichfield & Partners (NLP) to take forward the planning application on its behalf.
NLP and the Malhotra Group are hosting a consultation event to allow the public to view their plans and to hear more about the proposals.
Following the the public consultation event, a planning application will be submitted to Newcastle City Council and if successful, work will start in early 2017.
