Gateshead glass processors create dozen jobs

A North East manufacturer of flat glass products has created 12 new jobs at its Gateshead production facility, as sales grow.

Donwood Glass has recruited the staff to meet significantly demand for the company’s products.

Director at Donwood Glass, Andrew Donnelly, said: “We’re thrilled with the successes that this year has delivered Donwood so far, and being able to create new jobs within the business is particularly rewarding. As a family-run business which originated in here the North East, we’re dedicated to making sure we reinvest in the local economy and people here in Gateshead and across the wider region.

“To ensure we can continue to play our part in the local economy, we’re always looking for ways to adapt to market changes and diversify. In doing this we are able to support growth to allow us to expand and improve our offer for our clients and customers.”

The rise in sales over the last 12 months has been driven in part by recent investment by the company, with an additional state-of-the-art production line added to its manufacturing facility in Gateshead in order to boost capacity. Additional contract wins as well as repeat custom has further supported Donwood’s growth over the past year.

The second-generation company is also looking to fill further roles within the business to help them to continue to provide their products to customers across the North of England.

Andrew added: “We anticipate that sales will continue to grow into the third and fourth quarters of 2016 and we’re looking forward to seeing where the expansion of our on-site technology, equipment and of course, investment in the Donwood team will take us.”

Donwood Glass provides a range of processed glass products including insulated glass units, toughened safety glass and architectural and bespoke glass for both commercial and domestic projects.
