After a successful launch event in May, Newcastle Startup Week will be returning to the city for a 2018 event.
The citywide, multi-venue festival of entrepreneurship and innovation saw over 600 delegates from the region's startup community attend, along with an inspirational list of speakers from the likes of tech giants Sage, Uber, Digital Union, Sunderland Software City and the Federation of Small Businesses.
Before it returns, the team behind Newcastle Startup Week will also be hosting a 1-day ‘Newcastle Scale-up Summit’ at the Live Theatre on 23rd November 2017, which will go deeper into some of the topics covered on the event's popular ‘Growing & Scaling’ day.
Paul Lancaster, organiser of Newcastle Startup Week and MD of Plan Digital UK, explains: “I loved every minute of Newcastle Startup Week and, once it was underway, and I knew we had a full house at The Boiler Shop on day 1, I think I spent the whole week with a huge smile on my face and a feeling of enormous pride and satisfaction.
“Not only for what we’d achieved but that my faith in the strong community spirit of our region was being demonstrated for everyone to see. There are so many little anecdotes and examples of people coming together for the first time, using the week as an opportunity to launch a new product or service, gain confidence and renew their excitement about their business.
Apart from inspiring and helping people to start and grow a business, Paul has said he was delighted to hear from so many delegates who appreciated the fact that of the 50+ speakers, only a handful were not from the North East. Seeing 'local heroes' on stage he believes gave attendees a renewed sense of pride for the city and the region, and the motivation to keep going and build something special on their own.
“We’ve had a lot of great feedback about the strong sense of community on show that week,” said Paul.
Before that, November's 'Newcastle Scale-up Summit', will give delegates to collaborate and grow their business and discover what they need to do to move to the next level.
Paul adds: “Having spent almost 15 years helping other people start and grow their own business, I’ve built up a tremendous network around me and have a very good knowledge of where startups should go for the best advice and support.
“We’re going to build on last month’s event with a 1-day ‘Newcastle Scaleup Summit’ at the Live Theatre on 23rd. This will be a more practical, hands-on event where delegates can learn how other local entrepreneurs have successfully grown their business in the morning, followed by a series of facilitated workshops, 1-2-1s and breakout sessions to help them get stuck in and start the process of growing and scaling.”
