Fresh Element, which runs award-winning SIX restaurant, is looking for staff for café and event space
An innovative group which runs one of the North East's top restaurants is expanding into the Tyne Valley.
Fresh Element, which is behind award winning restaurant SIX at the BALTIC, are recruiting 20 catering staff for their new venue based near Hexham.
The new café and event space, close to Haydon Bridge, which will be run by Fresh Element, is looking for front of house staff and chefs for the new development opening this summer.
Fresh Element not only run Six at the BALTIC but also BALTIC Kitchen and Garden Kitchen in Eldon Garden, as well as managing all the events and weddings at the BALTIC. They focus strongly on sustainability, with the aim to be fully sustainable by 2020. This involves sourcing local, organic food where possible, whole animal butchery at their development site and responsibly disposing of waste.
Fresh Element chef/butcher Tom Robertshaw now shares his skills through public masterclasses and by training Fresh Element’s other chefs in butchery, “Unlike most chefs, who source meat from suppliers, I butcher whole animals at our development kitchen, at BALTIC, dry ageing, curing and preserving some cuts and devising menus that utilise every portion of the animal. It’s incredibly rare for a chef to do this,” he said.
“It’s how I learnt,” he added. “I learned what I know now, because other people showed me and it’s important those skills are passed on.”
