Cleveland College of Art and Design
The construction firm has completed work on the new Cleveland College of Art and Design campus in Hartlepool.
The £6.6m build, carried out by Esh Group's Esh Construction, is set to welcome degree-level students as of September.
The premises, which include high quality studio, workshop and teaching spaces, pave the way for a regeneration of the Victorian Church Street area as a centre for the creative industries.
Paul Redman, divisional director at Esh Construction, said: “This was a fantastic project for Esh Construction to be involved in.
“As a North East company we’ve been proud to help Cleveland College of Art and Design deliver an education resource that leads national standards and has the capacity to attract students from all over the country.
“Like the innovative work produced by degree students, this building is a bold statement of art and design.”
Tees Valley Combined Authority provided funding for the 45,000 sq ft space, which comprises a two storey teaching and administrative building, created from refurbished existing space and a three storey bespoke workshop and studio space on the site of the former Lynn Street Depot.
The new facilities include flexible studio space, two seven metre double-height studios for photography and TV or film work, a refectory area, galley and administration space.
Esh worked with developer Turner and Townsend and design partners, architecture firm Howard Litchfield Partnership and engineering specialist Cundall.
Redman added: “These facilities are now an important asset to the North East’s creative sector and will play a part in educating thousands of people.
“Esh’s own commitment to developing skills – through its various Added Value schemes – fits perfectly with the college’s ambition and we look forward to seeing the many future success stories to emerge from its classrooms.”
