Atom named among LinkedIn’s top disruptive start-ups

Durham-based digital bank, Atom, has been chosen by LinkedIn as one of the “25 industry disruptors you need to know now.”

The list, which also contains disruptive businesses like Uber and Airbnb, recognised businesses that are transforming industries, grabbing market share, and challenging the status quo.

Established in 2014 as a new challenger bank operating an app-based model, Atom has already grown to employ 300 staff and has a balance sheet of more than £500m.

In an interview with BQ earlier this year Anne Marie-Lister, Atom bank’s head of people experience, commented on the success of Atom, saying: “It’s our people who are helping us shape this business and by identifying and celebrating the uniqueness and individuality in those who come to work for us we can create something great for customers. Something that no organisation can prescribe.’’

LinkedIn looked at its 500 million members and their actions to analyse employee growth, job seeker interest via views and applications, member engagement with the company and its employees — and how well startups pulled talent from businesses on the LinkedIn Top Companies list.

To be eligible for the list, companies had to be at most 10 years old, have at least 100 employees, remain independent and privately held and have at least one round of venture-backed funding.

LinkedIn worked with CB Insights to pull a global list of nearly 25,000 eligible venture-backed companies, which was then narrowed down to the top 25 that are making waves in the UK.
