Stu-Art Aviation Furniture Ltd has been selected to exhibit in the Innovation Showcase at this year's VentureFest North East. Owner Stuart Abbot tells us what the business does and how he gets support from social media.
Describe your business in no more than 60 words
I am a designer and manufacturer of bespoke and custom aviation art furniture. I turn end of life aircraft parts into beautiful, useful, and affordable pieces.
What prompted you to enter the innovation showcase?
I want to show as many people as possible what can be created, and the innovation showcase is a brilliant platform.
What are the best and worst parts of trying to innovate in your business?
The long nights and days and the travel to collect parts are the worst parts, but seeing people’s reactions when they first see the furniture makes it really worthwhile.
What are the biggest challenges you face?
Trying to keep at the forefront of design and having to adapt the parts in keeping with the business ethos.
Where do you get support and advice to help you run your business?
I have a large following on social media. This gives me a global platform to share my work and find out the current trends. Everything so far has been from my own hands.
What does being chosen for the innovation showcase mean to you?
Being chosen means I can promote my business to a large professional base and highlight what I can do from an environmental perspective.
