Region's Creative Digital Sector Responds To The Autumn Budget 

As the dust settles on Philip Hammond's Autumn 2017 Budget Announcement, the region's creative digital sector have responded with cautious optimism for the region's growth prospects. 

Here in the North East, the region's largest digital network, Digital Union and one of its leading chartered accountancy firms, Blu Sky, have said there are reasons to be positive. 

Reacting to the budget, Digital Union's Network Manager, Rachel Peacock, said: “Overall, 

There are some positive takeaways in the recent budget in terms of the North East businesses and creative digital sector.

“With announcements of an extra £337 million to go towards the Metro fleet, further funds and focus on maths education and digital training and a green paper next month setting out plans to transform mental health services for children and young people, it seems they are making steps in the right direction.”

Meanwhile, Tyneside's Blu Sky, has said the 'minded to' devolution deal with the North of Tyne authorities is a second chance the region can't afford to miss. 

Blu Sky Co-Founder, Dave Gibson, said: “The government has agreed a ‘minded to’ devolution deal with the North of Tyne authorities, subject to the consent of local partners. This will see £600 million of investment in the region over 30 years.  This is our second chance guys, let’s take it.

“£21 million will be invested over the next 4 years to expand Tech City UK’s reach – to become ‘Tech Nation’ – and support regional tech companies and start-ups. Tech Nation will roll out a dedicated sector programme for leading UK tech specialisms, including AI and FinTech.”

hedgehog lab scoops another major award 

North East Tech and app Trailblazers hedgehog lab have won the UK App Awards UK App Agency of the Year 2017. 

The Tyneside based agency, which has offices throughout Europe and the USA, have said it's a great way to end a successful 2017 having already won the RAR Digital Awards for Mobile 100+ staff earlier this year. 

Its Chief Executive Officer, Sarat Pediredla, explains: “This is incredible recognition for the hard work by the team through ups and downs in a year where we delivered exceptional growth and positioned our company into a truly global scale up.

“We might be 10 years old but we are just getting started!”

North East Law Form Receives Praise at 2017 Law Society Excellence Awards 

Ward Hadaway - a leading UK Top 100 law firm, has been 'Highly Commended' in the coveted 2017 Law Society Excellence Awards. 

The annual awards ceremony, which took place in London, saw a range of UK leading law firms competing across a number of categories.

Ward Hadaway was the only North East headquartered firm to be recognised at the prestigious event. 

The firm was ‘Highly Commended’ in the Excellence In Technology award category which celebrates the innovative use of technology in delivering services for clients. 

Judges acknowledged the firm for its unique market-leading planning service for developers.

TICE to deliver Ladders talent digital development course in Sunderland 

TICE, who deliver the celebrated Ladders project on behalf of business development organisation Generator, is running a further course in early 2018, which will take place in Sunderland. 

The programme is open to anyone in the North East and travel bursaries are available for all sessions (North East only). Ladders is a free programme helping young people in the North East aged 17-24 with an interest in the creative and digital industries. 

The 12-week courses are designed to develop sector knowledge, skills/talent and abilities of all participants using creative delivery to introduce individuals to an industry perspective in their preferred creative area. 

TICE are also currently recruiting secondary schools around the North East region for their national award-winning programme.


Newcastle Video Production Company to roll out new video series 

ThreeMotion, a leading Video Production and Animation company in the North East, has released a new video series and are looking for more individuals and businesses to feature in it. 

The company wanted to take the opportunity to shine a light on the region's enterprising business leaders; those who dare to do things a little differently and forge their own path who they would call a North East Maverick.
