The Core at Science Central
A growing firm of patent and intellectual property advisors has kicked off 2018 by expanding into Ireland.
Definition IP, currently based at The Core at Science Central in Newcastle, was founded in November 2015 by Claire Rutherford and Dan Mercer with the vision of providing clear, practical advice to innovative businesses in the region and beyond.
After two successful years in the North East, Definition IP is now expanding into Ireland with a new office opening in Malahide, Dublin to be headed up by Eimear Sampson.
The new office will allow Definition IP to retain a foothold in the EU irrespective of any issues that Brexit may bring. Further, Eimear’s chemistry technology background is a perfect complement to the expertise currently in the business.
Claire Rutherford said: “It has always been our intention to expand our services beyond the North East. Whilst London was an option for us, the opportunities in Dublin and Ireland are so exciting that it soon became the obvious choice. Also, having worked with Eimear in the past we know that she is not only a great attorney but shares our vision of providing commercially focused IP advice in an accessible way to allow companies to confidently maximise the value of their Intellectual Property.”
Dan Mercer added: “Expanding into Ireland is a great fit for us for many reasons. There’s an obvious benefit with the uncertainty of BREXIT that we will have both EU and UK offices which ensures that our Clients will have options irrespective of any legal changes that may occur, however even without BREXIT we would have looked to Dublin as the business culture is in many ways similar to that in the North East and there is a real opportunity for us to work with some exciting businesses there.”
The Irish Office will be based in Creative Dock, an inspirational location overlooking Malahide Marina.
Eimear commented: “I am very much looking forward to introducing Definition IP to the Irish market. Whilst there are a number of Patent Attorney firms in Ireland, Definition IP aims to focus on those innovative businesses who don’t have an in-house IP department but are nonetheless innovating. There are so many exciting and growing Irish businesses that we are confident our Irish Office will be as successful as our current Newcastle Office.”
