The Glow team
A Durham marketing business is reaping the rewards of a German trade mission, as more North East businesses are being encouraged to export with a series of events and visits over the next two months.
Organised by North East England Chamber of Commerce and the Department for International Trade (DIT), a recent Berlin trade visit was particularly beneficial for Glow Creative.
Glow Creative director, Georgina Wilczek, said: “We joined the mission to Berlin to offer international marketing strategy, copywriting and translation services to German companies. We found the trip immensely useful even though we had never exported before. A number of our members of staff (including myself) are fluent in German and it gave us a perfect opportunity to use our full skillset.
“We conducted substantial research prior to going to Berlin to clearly identify which of our products would be the most promising for export. The visit was beneficial in giving us a good overview of the workings of the current German business market. As a direct result, we have also been introduced to several important new contacts who are helping us to establish a more permanent foothold abroad. Overall, it has been a very worthwhile experience and I would not hesitate to recommend the initiative to others.”
Julie Underwood, chamber international trade director said: “We have an outstanding export track record as a region. Businesses in all sectors can really benefit from expanding their marketplace overseas and also spreading any potential risk in trading conditions. There have been excellent success stories from our trade missions over the past few months, not just from Berlin but China and Boston were also very positive for North East firms.”
The Chamber organises opportunities for businesses new to exporting as well as those who are experienced, who may want to trade with a range of different countries. The next export event is on trading with United Arab Emirates on 22 March, organised in conjunction with Emirates at Emirates ICG, Durham Riverside.
