Port of Blyth has made an agreement with heavy lift and transport specialists Mammoet that will provide customers with a greater heavy lift service.
Whilst the port has already invested in heavy lift solutions of its own, the addition of the Mammoet crane will increase the heavy lift capability on site from 120 tonnes to 600 tonnes.
This will increase capacity, flexibility and efficiency for the port’s customers and offer significant cost savings as a result of favourable hire arrangements and reduced mobilisation costs.
Alan Todd, port director at Port of Blyth, said: “Having worked successfully with Mammoet on a number of high profile projects over several years this agreement is the logical next step in our partnership. Our customers will now benefit from a highly flexible and cost effective on site heavy lift solution whilst also being able to tap into the market leading expertise provided by Mammoet.”
Matthew Gent, managing director at Mammoet UK, said: “We are proud to extend our partnership with Port of Blyth on a more permanent basis. We understand the Port of Blyth plays a vital role as the region’s international gateway and we look forward to working together with them and their customers to deliver not only capacity, but maximum efficiencies to ensure safe and swift turnarounds.”
