Allana Loftus has entered her business, Future Apparel, into this year's If We Can You Can challenge. BQ caught up with her to find out about the inspiration behind her business.
What did you do before setting up your business?
Studied at Manchester Metropolitan University where I graduated with a 2:1 in International Fashion Promotion.
What inspired you to set up your business?
I found there was a gap in the market of on trend clothes available online for women over the age of 40. I found mainly online clothing companies were aiming at 20 year olds where 40+ women were feeling left out yet still wanted to buy trendy outfits. I started Future Apparel for women of all ages, as we believe that wearing stylish clothes should never come to an end no matter what your age.
What makes this business different?
The unique selling point is aiming at women of all ages, from teenagers buying dresses and skirts to 80-year-old women buying tops all from the same online store at the same time as all the clothes being trendy.
What inspired you to enter the If We Can You Can Challenge?
To show people that no matter what your dreams are if you work hard and push yourself you can make it happen. I want to be an inspiration to other people.
Where do you see your business in three years’ time?
I'd love to have my own unit with a team of people working for Future Apparel.
What has been the most rewarding part of your journey so far?
resulted in customers not being able find my company online, I had to change all of my promotional leaflets, business cards, signs, social media, everything! I then had to start from the beginning again and build up the name so I was visible on Google.
Who gave you support or advice when you were setting up?
My mum has been a massive help, not only does she model some of the clothes for the website, she helps me with doing the markets and showroom events.
What advice would you give to someone looking to set up their own business?
Really push yourself to make it happen, it takes a lot of time and effort to start a business you have to be willing to be patient.
