November 2018 will see the North East of England celebrate philanthropy with the launch of a new Generosity Festival.
The GeNErosity festival will highlight the acts of generosity from the middle ages to the present day that have shaped the North East, from Berwick to Teesside.
The Community Foundation Tyne & Wear and Northumberland alongside Newcastle University with support from County Durham Community Foundation will be delivering the GeNErosity Festival.
The festival is a series of 50 events, taking place across the North East between Wednesday 7th November and Tuesday 27th November, celebrating the history, current role and future of philanthropy across the region.
Events will cover everything from CSR ideas for business to corporate philanthropy and employee engagement to first time trusteeship and how disruptive technology will change philanthropy. There will also be 30 #poweredbyphilanthropy groups showing the benefits philanthropy is having on groups across the region.
An event called Giving for the City: The Role of Philanthropy in Driving Civic Identity will take place at 11am on 16 November at The Curve, Teesside University. The event will be led by Rhodri Davies, author of Giving a sense of place – Philanthropy and the future of UK Civic Identify. It will be an opportunity to examine whether and how we can collectively create a 21st century version of the civic philanthropy which played such an important role in the development of the UK’s towns and cities.
You can find information on attending these events here.
As part of the festival, a competition is running to find the North East’s unsung heroes, with the winners of each of the five categories winning a grant of £1000, and the overall winner receiving an extra £3000.
