North East social enterprise, Earth Doctors Ltd, have established a crowdfunding page to raise funds for the refurbishment of their new premises.
Having secured a ten-year lease on premises in Shieldfield, Newcastle, from Newcastle City Council, Earth Doctors hope to scale up trading and enhance their social impact.
With the aim of opening their new premises in July 2019, the community bakery will build local impact through a series of community events over the summer and ongoing throughout the year.
To fund the refurbishment and purchase of equipment, the community bakers are undertaking a crowdfunding campaign.
Earth Doctors run baking workshops and training sessions in schools, community centres and other locations across the North East, with hundreds of individuals including people with physical and mental disabilities, across a wide age range taking part.
Managing director Andy Haddon said: "We have consulted with residents at a series of local events, collecting unanimously positive responses about the benefits to the community of establishing the bakery in Shieldfield.
"This new building will provide a secure, fully accessible base for the next phase of the bakery’s development."
