The Wealth Management business that has become a cornerstone of the investment community in the region had already made one major new appointment early in 2013 with the recruitment of the hugely experienced Andrew Elliot from Barclays. Now it has surprised the market and many in the region with the recruitment of the well-known client advisor and commentator on regional matters, Vinay Bedi. Vinay had spent 25 years at Brewin Dolphin and was clearly going to be hard to prise away.
"Understandably, for someone who'd spent so long within one organisation, it was going to take something extremely compelling to lure me away. I needed to be convinced that transferring would principally be to the benefit of my clients, that I could look each and every one of them in the eye and say that this move would ultimately add value to the service I could provide for them".
However, as well as the critically important matter of providing the best Global investment opportunities for his clients, Vinay was also conscious of other crucial aspects of the industry. The financial arena has changed dramatically in the last five years. New legislation and regulations have affected the industry significantly. Organisations have had to adjust and change their cultures and as Vinay says "at UBS I came across a business that I sensed was ahead of the curve, which had procedures and systems in place and was moving forwards with looking after its clients."
UBS has clearly provided a reinvigorating breath of fresh air for Vinay who has also become well-known across the region for his regular work in the media, whether through articles in the written press or appearances on local and national television. "I certainly hope I can use my experience and knowledge of the region to help UBS develop further its strong commitment to the North East – and likewise I hope that UBS's great strengths in terms of investment and banking offerings will be fully utilised by the regions business and industry alongside its core investor base. This is a great opportunity to help all parties grow and expand for the good of the region in which I was born and grew up."
The arrival of Andrew and Vinay provides UBS with experience and expertise in abundance. "Our investment offering, the robust nature of our processes and the quality of our Global research all make our proposition stand out as the highest quality available" said Andrew Elliot. "UBS really does put the clients first and with Vinay and I now joining up with Jonathan Brown and Aidan Dunstan, out and about in the North East, this really is the strongest team one could wish to be involved with".
Head of Office Aidan Dunstan is delighted how the office is progressing but promises that further growth will come. "This office is extremely well positioned, the client base is paramount and they deserve and are receiving a top class service and superb Global investment proposition. We will also continue to invest in the best people and this office is only going to go from strength to strength."
The price and value of investments and income derived from them can go down as well as up. You may not get back the amount you originally invested.
