A new opportunity for hospitality staff

A North West-headquartered hotel group is to accelerate the careers of high potential employees at its Cumbria and Lancashire bases thanks to a new partnership with Kendal College.

English Lakes Hotels Resorts & Venues has partnered with the college to provide a new training programme designed to improve the leadership and managerial skills of its staff.

Staff will be given the opportunity to work towards a 4 Advanced Diploma in Hospitality Management, from the Institute of Hospitality, which will allow them to gain working skills in areas such as recruitment and staff retention, conflict resolution, and legal and financial issues within the industry.

Managing director of the hotel group said:  "The career and skills development of our staff is the cornerstone of our success.  As a family run business, we are ambitious for all our staff to do well and progress in their own careers within the group, so it’s important that we invest in our existing talent.

"The hospitality management training programme is another mechanism for us to help our staff go that extra mile for both our guests and each other.  We are always seeking to make additional service improvements and this leadership programme is an important investment in helping our staff grow into future management roles."

Hotel staff will receive a mix of on the job learning, coaching and self-managed study, all the while being supported by a company mentor from English Lakes Hotels.

Suzanne Horner from Kendal College adds: "What makes this programme unique is the opportunity for the students to tap into the experience and knowledge from the senior management team, and be exposed to leading professionals within the business

"They benefit from gaining a wider understanding of the attributes required to be a hospitality leader, as well as the key aspects of the business.  When they graduate in the autumn of 2017, the course will have boosted their skills, knowledge, experience, confidence and ultimately their future ability to play a leadership role in the hospitality industry."
