New car sales in the UK grew by 1.6% in September compared with the same month last year as consumers were quick to snap up the new 66 plate car registrations.
Some 469,696 cars were registered last month to make it the strongest September on record, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) said.
Yorkshire-headquartered JCT600, one of the nation’s leading car dealers which has dealerships in over 50 locations, is just one of the company’s reaping the benefits.
John Tordoff, chief executive of JCT600, told BQ: "The arrival of a new registration plate is always eagerly awaited by many customers and consequently we usually see a spike in sales around this time.
"September 2016 has been no different and, in fact, we have delivered a record number of new cars which is great news not only for us, but is also a positive indicator of the continued growth of the motor industry."
The 66 number plate was introduced at the start of the month.
