intu has invested £25m in the development of the dining area, refurbishing the original Sidgate and High Friar malls, reconfiguring 80,000 sq ft of retail space in the shopping centre.
The new restaurants have now begun to take up residence, with George’s Great British Kitchen, Giraffe and ASK Italian opening for business this week.
ASK Italian’s managing director, Harry Heeley, said: “We’re really excited to be part of Grey’s Quarter at intu Eldon Square and look forward to bringing the ASK Italian recipe of delicious dishes, warm service and fresh design – all inspired by the best of Italy to busy Newcastle shoppers this Autumn.”
Main contractor Sir Robert McAlpine stripped back the space in the summer of 2015, and the redevelopment process has taken a year to complete.
