Gaming merchandise business relocates to North East

A company which designs and sells merchandise for the video gaming industry has purchased a 16,000sqft facility in Jarrow, South Tyneside.

Industrial property specialists, HTA Real Estate acquired the Rolling Mill Road property on behalf of Rubber Road, which works with some of the world’s leading gaming brands as well as its own successful merchandise brand, Numskull.

The acquisition is part of a major expansion for the firm, which is relocating its storage and distribution facility from Hull in a move that will almost triple its floorspace and create a number of new jobs. 

The company has already recruited seven new members of staff including graphic designers and warehouse operatives and will be using the building’s office space as a base for its expanding research, development and design team.  

Nick Atkinson, director at HTA Real Estate said: "We were aware that Rubber Road were looking for warehouse space in the region and identified this property as an ideal solution. They had a requirement for a storage and distribution facility but also wanted a larger than average amount of office space to house their expanding design team and the building was already ideally set up to cater for their needs. We are delighted to have been able to assist them with their expansion and relocation to the North East."

Founded in 2012 by experienced retailers Ben Grant and Matt Precious, Rubber Road has become a leading player in the industry and sells its merchandise directly to customers from its own retail website as well as to retailers.

The company also has an office in Hertfordshire where its sales, marketing and finance teams are based.

The firm was keen to move its warehousing operation to the North East after one of its directors took up residence in the region and says the new premises will aid further expansion. 

Matt Precious, managing partner at Rubber Road said: "We are delighted HTA introduced us to this property, it offers an ideal logistical location close to the A19 for distribution and also provides the right balance of office and warehousing space.  We are also looking into taking advantage of its close proximity to the Port of Tyne to use as a drop-off location for our goods being shipped from China."
