New owner modernises century-old Lancashire post office

A young entrepreneur is transforming a Waterfoot post office into a modern community hub.

Fahid Ahsan, 24, has purchased the post office on Burnley Road, which has been trading for more than a century, and has carried out a full refurbishment.

The building is home to Strawz, a new milkshake bar which has already been a hit with local residents, and now Fahid is planning to use the hub as a base for a prescription delivery service.

The post office currently has three members of staff but over the next year Fahid hopes to grow the team and increase his customer base.

Fahid, who used to work at his family’s post office, said: “I am looking to create a hub for the community where everyone has access to a range of services in one location.

“The milkshake bar will capture our younger audience’s attention, the extended opening times enable working families to carry out errands, and the prescription delivery service will be a big help for some of our older customers.”

Fahid purchased the post office with help from a funding package from Yorkshire Bank.

Stewart Cook, head of Yorkshire Bank’s Business and Private Banking Centre in Preston, said: “Fahid is an ambitious young entrepreneur who has used the Bank’s support to breathe new life into the post office, incorporating services that will benefit the entire community.

“We are proud to have supported Fahid’s first business acquisition and look forward to continuing to support him in the future.”
