Hotel Gotham hires new cast after auditions

Manchester’s Hotel Gotham has boosted its theatrical hospitality team – or ‘cast’ – as it looks to mark its second year in the city with ambitious plans for growth.

The award-winning King Street-based hotel, which launched last year, called on the city’s most talented and dynamic individuals to ‘audition’ for a place on Gotham’s in-house team.

Gotham has become known for its ‘live theatre’ approach, with characters including Lady Didsbury, Lord Salford and Bellboy Barry.

Held at Manchester Town Hall, more than 100 members of the public turned out to show off their skills to secure positions as chambermaids, waiters, bar tenders, receptionists, porters, restaurant management and chefs.

The latest round of appointments will be required to carry out their day-to-day duties, as well as providing a ‘supporting role’ to the hotel’s leading acts.

The recruitment drive aims to take on 20 new full-time team members by the end of the summer and is part of Hotel Gotham’s long-term strategy to become Manchester’s go-to venue for city breaks and high-quality food and drink.

General manager Mario Ovsenjak said: “We had an incredible first year and we’ve been overwhelmed by the response from guests. We’re known for our stand-out personality, exceptional customer service and, of course, our Gotham glamour, so our team needs to reflect this.

“We were extremely impressed by the level of talent we saw at the auditions and were bowled over by the effort people went to in order to show what they can offer Gotham.”

The 60-bedroom hotel is also home to members-only venue Club Brass, as well as Honey Restaurant, and is aiming for a total 94 per cent occupancy rate by the end of the year.
