Tech sector growth sees UKFast recruitment boom

Manchester technology brand UKFast’s record number of applications in the first half of 2016 reinforces the national trend for job growth in the tech sector, with the firm seeing applicant numbers increasing fourfold.

Growth in the technology industry continues, with the sector outperforming all others in the UK in terms of job creation in recent years, growing 32% faster than the rest of the UK’s economy.

UKFast CEO Lawrence Jones expects the demand for roles in tech and digital to keep growing.

He said: “Brexit or no Brexit, people want to work in tech and for exciting tech businesses. It’s the fastest growing and most exciting industry in the world and Britain is one of the leading players.

“The best and brightest want to come into our industry and that can only be a good thing, but at the same time more people are realising that a career in tech can be accessible to anyone with the right attitude and a willingness to learn.”

The 5,626 applicants for roles at UKFast in the first half of 2016 represent a 306% increase on the same period last year. Jones has his sights set on boosting overall staff numbers to 350 this year, having grown headcount from 200 in early 2015 to its current level of 300.

“The huge acceleration in applications is testament to the amazing team we have at UKFast and the strength of our reputation as a great place to work. The fact that we keep on growing and strengthening our position every year gives people the confidence to come and work for us. It’s certainly keeping our team of internal recruiters very busy.”

UKFast this year gained three star status – the highest possible – in The Sunday Times Best Companies To Work For list, placing 33rd in the Sunday Times Top 100 Best Small Companies to Work For.

Jones continued: “It’s an honour to for us to receive recognition for our culture and to be named a great place to work, but the real reward comes from working with a motivated team every day. I’ve always seen the value in rewarding your team and creating an environment where people love coming to work and have opportunities to develop.”

The fourfold increase in job applications comes as UKFast announces a 17th consecutive year of growth, achieving EBITDA of £16.2m in 2015. The firm is on track to top £40 million turnover this year.
