The quarterly business magazine, which celebrates and inspires entrepreneurship, will officially launch in the North West later this year with the first issue hitting desks in mid-November.
BQ started life as a quarterly title celebrating entrepreneurs from across the North East of England back in 2008 and has since grown into a national brand covering Scotland, the West Midlands, Yorkshire and London.
The new North West edition will now see BQ cover Manchester, Liverpool, Lancashire and Cheshire and will be supported by BQ Breakfast North West, the daily breakfast bulletin profiling businesses success stories from across the region.
Maria stood down from her role at the Manchester Evening News in 2012 and after roles in science and technology marketing and PR leading external communications at BBC North and working at BBC 5Live, she set up her own successful media consultancy in 2014 which she will continue to run.
She said: "The North West is thriving and every day I hear great stories about people and businesses who are determined to make their mark.
"I’m looking forward to telling those stories and uncovering some of the great entrepreneurship that is part of this region’s DNA.
"It’s exciting to be part of this new venture."
Bryan Hoare, managing director of BQ, added: "Maria joins a highly respected and experienced team of editors across the UK and I’m delighted she is on board at such an exciting time for BQ.
"As we continue to grow as a national brand recognised for celebrating and inspiring entrepreneurship, her wealth of experience and profile across the North West will be invaluable."
