Cheshire-based Tiger Trailers has started work on a £22m factory expansion that will create 170 jobs.
The vehicle and trailer manufacturer expects that the new site will be operational by early 2019.
The extension has been backed by £2.9m funding from NatWest and Lombard.
Tiger Trailers is the first trailer manufacturer to become a partner of the Northern Powerhouse, and as part of this the company is investing in its own apprenticeship scheme.
Chris Smith, finance director at Tiger Trailers, said: "The company started with the vision of creating innovative transport products from a Cheshire manufacturing facility. Thanks to ongoing funding from NatWest and Lombard, we have realised our vision and rapidly grown to become one of the UK's leading trailer and vehicle body manufacturers.
"We will continue to build products which are delivering real efficiency and savings for the industry and we are committed to supporting the comeback of the Northern economy."
Philip Mills, relationship manager for NatWest, added: "We have worked with Tiger Trailers since the company was founded, and it has been fantastic helping the business grow to become a huge player in the manufacturing industry and now a Northern Powerhouse partner.
"We look forward to continuing to work with such a fast-growing and successful company as it continues to expand."
