Former director of commercial banking at Royal Bank of Scotland, Iain Burnside, has been appointed as Edinburgh, Lothians and Borders Loan Officer at DSL Business Finance Ltd (DSL), which delivers the Scottish Microfinance Fund (SMF).
Burnside will be responsible for ensuring business owners and their advisers in Edinburgh, Lothians and Borders are aware of how the SMF can help fund their business ambitions and supporting them through the loan process.
He has over twenty-five years’ experience in business and commercial banking with extensive knowledge of the SME marketplace in Scotland and joins DSL from Single Source Aviation Group (SSA), where he was previously CEO.
As a Loan Officer at the SMF, Burnside will ensure business owners in the Edinburgh, Lothians and Borders region receive the best possible support with their application process and business plans, whether this be for start-up or growth. All applicants receive face-to-face pre-loan and aftercare support from Loan Officers who are based throughout Scotland, notably in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee and Inverness.
Since the launch of the Fund in 2016, the SMF has lent over £2m to 150 small-medium sized businesses in Scotland, which has either created and maintained 300 jobs. The Fund is managed and delivered by DSL Business Finance Ltd (DSL) with the support of the Scottish Government, Start-up Loans Company (SULCo) and European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
Commenting on Iain Burnside’s appointment, executive director of DSL Business Finance Stuart Yuill said: “Iain has unrivalled expertise in the SME marketplace in Scotland, which will be vital for continuing to develop the reach and effectiveness of the SMF in the Edinburgh, Lothians and Borders region. His experience will help entrepreneurs with new and existing businesses to become ‘funding ready’ so they build robust business plans to ensure more start-up and growing SMEs survive in such a competitive economic climate.”
Iain Burnside, SMF loan officer for Edinburgh, Lothians and Borders added: “I am looking forward to helping a diverse range of entrepreneurs whether they are starting up or taking their businesses to the next level. Funding is such a key part of the that development, and it’s very rewarding to see how much of an impact a loan from the Scottish Microfinance Fund can make.”
