Business leaders are being urged to let their employees work flexibly today as part of the Smarter Working Initiative 2018, a campaign taking place on the first day of the school summer holidays.
The Smarter Working Initiative is a nationwide flexible working awareness day taking place on Monday 23rd July, encouraging businesses to embrace flexible, smarter working and allow employees to find a positive work-life balance on the first day of the school holidays.
Over 250 companies have so far signed up to the initiative, including major British employers such as RED Driving School and MediaCom, and 250,000 UK workers have pledged to work flexibly today.
The campaign, run by communications software company Powwownow, was launched in 2016 in an effort to demonstrate to businesses the positive impact of smarter working, including increased productivity and staff morale.
Jason Downes, founder of the Smarter Working Initiative, said: “We’re encouraging employers to really listen to the increasing number of workers wishing they were offered flexible working. It’s not enough that staff are entitled to request flexible working – employers should be actively supporting a smarter working culture within their teams.
“We’re asking businesses to pledge to try it out for one day, with the aim of demonstrating the incredibly positive impact that flexible working has on employers and employees alike.”
To celebrate, the Smarter Working Initiative has teamed up with PureGym to give all SWI members an exclusive free PureGym day pass, which can be used between the hours of 12:01am and 11:59pm on Monday 23rd July.
These free passes will be valid at every one of the 200+ PureGym branches nationwide, enabling all SWI members to work out whenever and wherever they want to on the day.
Smarter Working Initiative members will also be granted free access to a range of co-working spaces across the UK today.
In London, members will be able to exclusively access Andco’s hand-picked restaurants, cafes and event spaces set aside as workspaces for the day.
Smarter Working Initiative members will also be able to pop into one of Rentadesk’s friendly and open co-working communities in London on the day, for free coffee and the space needed to get things done.
Rentadesk has two main hubs near popular transport hubs; Rentadesk West London, W12 7FD, near Shepherd’s Bush Station and Rentadesk Central London, WC1A 2HH, near Russell Square.
To enjoy this free access, simply quote ‘Smarter Working Initiative’ at your chosen location on the day.
Four years after the Flexible Working Regulations came into force, research from Powwownow has found that only half (53%) of employees are currently offered flexible working, despite 75% saying it would make a job more attractive to them.
After last year’s Smarter Working Initiative, 78% of business owners who previously didn’t offer flexible working said they would do so going forward – a positive shift in attitudes towards smarter working.
