A Trustee of Scotland’s leading cancer research charity, Worldwide Cancer Research, has won an award at the Women’s Enterprise Scotland Awards 2019.
Roz Cuschieri, who joined the charity’s Board of Trustees in 2017 won Board Member of the Year at the prestigious awards held in Glasgow.
The Women’s Enterprise Scotland Awards, in collaboration with Scottish Business Insider, celebrate the growing number of women-led businesses and recognise their achievements and talents.
With three decades of experience, Roz is a commercial professional and has worked with some the country’s largest food and drink brands including United Biscuits, Warburtons and Genius. As CEO she led the business to become the leading gluten free player in the UK.
Roz has held several Non-Exec positions including Marston’s plc and Lightbody Ventures. As well as Worldwide Cancer Research, Roz currently sits on the board of two more charities: NCFE and is the Chair of Social Bite.
Before her commercial career, Roz gained a Pure Science degree in Immunology from Aberdeen University. With a passion for science and research, she knew she wanted to one day combine it with her experience and knowledge in expanding and growing businesses and brands.
Roz said: “I’m absolutely thrilled - and surprised – to have won Board Member of the Year. Thank you to Women’s Enterprise Scotland and congratulations to my fellow nominees. We are so privileged to be able to serve on such incredible boards.
“As a Trustee on the Board of Worldwide Cancer Research, I’m delighted to be able to bring the experience I’ve gathered throughout my commercial career to this important charity.
“Worldwide Cancer Research is a small Scottish-based charity but what they are in size, they make up for in ambition. The growth plans are immensely exciting, and I’m honoured to be part of it.”
Chairing the Board of Trustees at Worldwide Cancer Research is David Sole OBE – international rugby player and School for CEO’s co-founder.
Speaking of Roz’s success, David said: “I was delighted to see Roz collect the award for Board Member of the Year at last night’s Women’s Enterprise Scotland event – it is well deserved. Roz is a thoughtful, insightful and empathetic trustee who is a valuable asset to any Board.
“Here at Worldwide Cancer Research, we are lucky to have her on our team. She is always very challenging in her questions, yet at the same time ensures that they are well intended and come with 100% support which is the true measure of an outstanding Non-executive Director.”
Worldwide Cancer Research is the charity that kick-starts cancer cures across the world by backing the brightest cancer researchers – wherever they might be based.
Dr Helen Rippon, CEO at Worldwide Cancer Research added: “We’re thrilled to have Roz on our board, not only to benefit from her wealth of expertise but to have her represent our charity at prestigious awards such as Women’s Enterprise Scotland. Roz has played a crucial role in our growth plans and for that, everyone at Worldwide Cancer Research is eternally grateful. I personally can’t wait to see what the future brings – for our charity and our incredibly talented trustees."
