In the summer of 2018 Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council’s food safety team received a request from a new food business in the area – Rose & Potter.
The small café delicatessen wanted to ensure that it was complying with the law and that it was able to achieve a 5 rating under the food hygiene rating scheme.
Amanda, the owner of Rose & Potter said, "As a new business, we were informed that we would be due for a hygiene inspection an unconfirmed - yet imminent - date.
"Feeling daunted, we called the environmental compliance team at the council for advice. Not only did they arrange to visit the premises prior to the inspection, but offered advice on the relevant paperwork and how to make the requirements manageable.
"The inspection itself was pretty painless, and very supportive. It gave us the confidence to start thinking about ways to grow the business, in the knowledge that advice is always readily available."
The inspection resulted in a 5 rating for the business which provides a good platform for future growth.
