Real estate firm Hines has started work on a £1.8m refurbishment programme in Phase 1 of the mall at The Centre, Livingston.
The project includes new ceilings and doors, LED energy efficient lighting, new décor, contemporary seating areas, and improved WiFi.
Work is expected to be completed by December and will take place outside trading hours to ensure minimum disruption for retailers and customers.
The Centre, which is one of Scotland’s largest covered shopping centres, is home to over 160 retailers, including Primark, Debenhams and M&S, as well as restaurants, including Nando’s, Wagamama and ASK Italian.
Sharon Bloodworth, director of Shopping Centre Asset Management for Hines UK, said: “The £1.8m revamp of Phase 1, built in 1976, includes refreshing and modernising the interior of this area of the shopping centre to bring it into line with the newer parts of the centre. We are confident our changes will enhance the overall shopping experience for our customers and create a positive boost to the trading environment for our retailers.”
In addition to the refurbishment, The Centre will also see new store openings, including a recently launched 82 seater Greggs shop and relocations into larger premises by Disney Store, and Bonmarché and Yours Clothing who have unveiled brand new shopfits.
The Centre was acquired by Hines in December 2014, in conjunction with clients of HSBC Private Bank advised by HSBC Alternative Investments Limited.
