Next commits to manufacturing in Yorkshire

Leading high street retailer Next has committed its future to Yorkshire with the launch of a new sofa manufacturing facility in Doncaster.

The company is opening the new 600,000 sq ft facility, which will include a sofa manufacturing facility, in August.

The site will be adjacent to its existing warehouse in the Armthorpe area of Doncaster which currently employs around 500 members of staff.

Initially there will be 50 people employed in the sofa manufacturing team although Next expects this figure to grow over the next few years as production volumes increase.

The news is yet another success story for the regions buoyant manufacturing sector after Burberry announced plans to develop a new £50m state-of-the-art manufacturing and weaving facility in Leeds late last year.
