MI Supplies makes £100k investment in future

A Teesside workwear and safety supplier is investing £100,000 in its business, creating new jobs after a record year.

MI Supplies, based at Teesside Industrial Estate in Thornaby, Stockton, has just celebrated its 10th anniversary, enjoying year-on-year growth for the last decade.

Its 2015 turnover hit £2.25m – up from £192,000 in its first year in 2005 – while building its workforce to a 13-strong team and increasing its premises.

Now MI Supplies is looking to invest £100,000 to improve efficiency, customer service and create more jobs.

The firm’s managing director Alex Ingham said: “We’ve always aimed for top customer service, which has been our number one priority since we launched 10 years ago.

“At the start, we had to put our money where our mouth was and encourage people to do business with us, so I made a promise to potential clients, and that was if we let them down on anything delivery wise, I’d give them a cheque for £100.

“Thankfully, we never had to send any £100 cheques, and I was able to take that off my business card after about six months and we were up and running.

It now has a growing client base consisting of more than 250 business customers including the fire brigade, local councils, engineering firms and charities, while more than 26,000 customers have ordered supplies from the company’s website, and brands supplied by MI include Sainsbury’s, Barbour, Aldi, Royal Mail and Mercedes.

Alex is looking to MI’s new website to increase online sales in 2016 to £1m and hopes to drive the firm’s overall turnover to £4m by 2018.

He added: “We’ve had 10 years of growth, 10 years of increased profits and 10 years of increasing staff numbers, because we have excellent employees that we look after, and I think that always pays long term dividends.
