US pizza company to open first UK restaurant in Leeds

Seattle-based cult brand MOD Pizza has chosen Leeds as the location of its first UK restaurant, bringing its artisan-style, superfast pizza to the UK this summer with the opening of its first restaurant in Leeds.

MOD Pizza, was recently named America’s fastest growing chain restaurant, and is now establishing a presence in the UK by opening a restaurant in Cardigan Fields next month.

MOD’s individual pizzas are made on demand with fresh-pressed dough and signature sauces, allowing customers to create their own pizzas and salads, using any combination of over 34 featured toppings or choose from MOD’s menu of classics.

All pizzas and salads are the same fixed-price, £7.47, pizzas are hand-cooked in a bespoke 300®c oven in less than 4 minutes whilst salads are individually hand-tossed for each customer.

MOD Pizza, which bills itself as the pioneer of fast casual pizza, was founded in Seattle, Washington, in 2008 by entrepreneurs Scott and Ally Svenson.

They had spent more than a decade living and working in the UK, where they founded the Seattle Coffee Company, before selling the business to Starbucks.

MOD considers its main ingredient for success to be its employees, known as the MOD Squad, in line with the philosophy of the founding partners, the business has a unique people-led culture and MOD Squadders are encouraged to support their fellow employees and be active in the community.

Beginning the MOD tradition of home-grown involvement and community outreach, the Leeds restaurant has selected Breeze, who organise special city wide events for young people in the Leeds area, to receive proceeds from 100% of all pizza sales on their grand opening day.

Breeze will be MOD Leeds partner in a variety of different initiatives throughout the year including Spreading MODness week in November.

The Leeds restaurant is set to open on 2 June and will provide jobs for 40 people in the local area.
