£250,000 boost for start-ups

Entrepreneurial Spark awarded a grand total of £255,000 to start-ups across the country at its prestigious Entrepreneuring Awards yesterday (20 July).

Held in partnership with RBS, NatWest, Ulster Bank, KPMG and EMC, the Entrepreneuring Awards took place in eight of the business accelerator’s hatcheries across the UK.

Offering entrepreneurs the opportunity to come together and celebrate their successes over the past six months, from securing substantial investment, through to selling their products internationally and creating new jobs, start-ups were in with a chance of winning up to £10,000 to help propel their business growth.

Commenting on the awards, Entrepreneurial Spark co-founder and chief entrepreneuring officer Lucy-Rose Walker said: “Congratulations to all of our winners!

“The awards give our Chiclets an opportunity to celebrate their #GoDo journey and make plans on how to accelerate growth in their remaining time within the programme and beyond.

“Testament to our commitment to grow, with three new hatcheries opening in August our next Entrepreneuring Awards will take place across 12 locations throughout the country, with a prize fund of almost £350,000.

“Well done to everyone who was nominated and to all the winners – we’re sure you’ll continue to #GoDo and embrace the programme and all opportunities which come your way.”

To date entrepreneurs following the business accelerator programme have raised over £45m in investment, secured an accumulative turnover of £85m and created 1,816 jobs.

Around 88% of the companies the business accelerator has worked with are still trading today, a figure far above the industry norm.
