Pyramid’s success coincides with a string of new contract wins for the company, with online retailers Ocado and Chemist Direct now selling its products on their websites.
The family-run business, headquartered in the Scottish borders, has seen profits soar this financial year with the last six months being their most successful to date. The firm observed 40% growth from February to July alone.
Nicola Cameron, head of marketing at Pyramid Travel Products, said: “Our growth is extremely encouraging. We made the decision to launch a Protect range of products last year, aimed at parents and families. Ocado and Chemist Direct are selling this range online just now.
“Our Trek range is tailored towards outdoor enthusiasts and explorers. Having two distinct product lines targeting specific audiences has been a real advantage for us, and with the recent threat of Zika focussing on repellents as the first defence, people are increasingly seeking out highly recommended products.”
Pyramid also has a range of protective clothing and travel health and hygiene products. Developed in partnership with the University of Edinburgh, the London Hospital for Tropical Diseases and Heriot-Watt University, Pyramid’s time-release technology means its repellents rank among the most advanced in the UK. .
As tropical destinations become more accessible and desirable to travellers, a growing number of people face disease-carrying insects, making insect repellents an increasingly vital part of people’s travel kit.
Nicola said: “Our product range allows travellers to ensure most elements of their daily routine are taken care of. Hand gel, spray and water purification tablets can be crucial to making sure travellers stay fit and healthy whilst abroad, and mosquito nets are essential in certain areas. Taking adequate protection for trips is particularly important for events such as the Olympic Games, where crowds gather in large numbers, increasing the chance of disease transmission.”
