New jobs and growth for Urban Green

14 new jobs have been created at design and environmental consultancy Urban Green, as the firm more than doubled its turnover in the last year.

The company has grown from a one-person start-up to a team of 23 and has developed a five-year strategy of continued growth and diversification over the coming years, thanks to support from the Business Growth Hub.

Established in 2005, Urban Green specialises in ecology, digital imagery, landscape architecture and urban design services. Working with clients such as Manchester City Council, Peel Holdings, and national and regional housebuilders and developers, Urban Green delivers designs and environmental aspirations to legislative requirements.

The company has recently been appointed to South Derbyshire District Council’s Consultants Framework for three years, with two projects already underway, establishing them further in the marketplace.

In October, the company moved to new premises in vibrant Ancoats Urban Village in response to the business’ growth.

Urban Green has been working with Business Growth Hub, part of Manchester Growth Company for two years. The Hub’s mentoring advisor Nicola Warwick worked with Urban Green directors Martin King and Scott Fitzgerald to develop the company growth strategy.

As part of this, Nicola introduced Martin and Scott to Howard Simms, CEO of Apadmi Ventures, who has provided invaluable mentoring support based on his leadership experience at the technology company.

Scott Fitzgerald, managing director at Urban Green, said:“The growth we have experienced in the past year has been incredible. Since 2005, we have diversified to provide a number of new services for our clients, including landscape planning and digital imagery. The new office move is an indicator of our continued growth.

“Nicola has been fantastic to us and the business has benefitted from her expertise. She took the time to understand our culture and introduced us to a network of relevant contacts to expand as a business, many of which we still have relationships with today.”

Nicola Warwick, mentoring advisor at Business Growth Hub, part of MGC, said:“Urban Green is a brilliant business that creates sustainable and innovative landscape designs, making a real difference to residents and local communities across the UK.

"The creation of 14 jobs and 100% turnover growth is testament to Scott and Martin’s dedication and hard work, I look forward to continuing to work with them to drive further expansion and build on the momentum they’ve worked so tirelessly to generate.”
