Aldi Beer Festival boosts brewers by £175,000

Supermarket chain, ALDI, has chosen a selection of craft beers to be featured in its tenth Scottish Beer Festival this month.

The in-store promotion is predicted to generate more than £175,000 for the craft breweries involved.

In total, 35 beers have been selected will be on offer in ALDI’s 67 Scottish stores while stocks last.

Highlights from this month’s ALDI Scottish Beer Festival include Yggdrasil from Blackmetal Brewery, Speyside Oak Aged Blonde from Belhaven and Scottish Heroes Golden Ale, which will donate 5p from every bottle sold to the Scottish Heroes Charity.

ALDI launched its first Beer Festival in 2012 and since then, over £1.4m in sales has been generated for the Scottish breweries involved.

The Scottish Beer Festival events give many small breweries their first major retail listing and 33% of the beer selected to feature in this summer’s in-store festival are being stocked by ALDI for the first time.

Richard Holloway, managing director, ALDI Scotland, said: "What better way for us to help aid the transition into the autumn months than by launching our tenth beer festival – a celebration of some of the best breweries in Scotland.

"We’ve built strong relationships with each brewery and, with demand for local produce higher than ever, we’re expecting the Beer Festival to be a sell-out success.

"We look forward to working with these new and existing suppliers to bring our customers a great selection of Scottish beer at the best prices."
