International games label and developer Team17 has welcomed 4J Studios co-founder Chris van der Kuyl as a new non-executive chairman.
Chris co-founded, co-owns and is chairman of 4J Studios, which is responsible for bringing the multimillion selling Minecraft to all games console formats, along with business partner and 4J CEO Paddy Burns.
The new role follows the firm’s recent partnership with leading mid-market private equity firm LDC.
Team17 has recently acquired Mouldy Toof Studios and the multimillion selling franchise The Escapists following the partnership, which saw LDC invest £16.5million to support the continued growth of the company.
"It’s an honour to be able to invest in and play a part in the Team17 story. Debbie and her team represent a pillar of the British games industry and I can’t wait to see where this new and exciting chapter takes the company" said Chris.
Debbie Bestwick MBE added "I’ve known Chris for a few decades and this is the perfect time for us to start working together to take Team17 to the next stage of growth. Next year is going to be one the most exciting times for the company and for all our label partners".
Alongside LDC, 4J Studios founders have invested in a minority stake in Team17 as part of the aforementioned deal.
