A business which designs and creates edible cake toppers, has more than doubled its turnover in just two years.
My Cupcake Toppers increased its annual turnover by 117% from £58,000 to £126,000 between 2015 and 2017 after upgrading to larger premises at Strathclyde Business Park.
Initially founded as a home bakery in 2010, My Cupcake Toppers expanded to decorative and edible cake toppers two years later. In 2015 it took up residency in a 492 sq. ft. industrial unit at Grovewood Business Centre which allowed it to purchase a state-of-the art hydraulic cutting machine.
The acquisition of this key piece of equipment, which it was unable to store in the previous premises, marked a turning point for the business, and it now delivers around 10,000 orders annually to clients around the world, including in the UK, Singapore, Australia and Norway.
My Cupcake Toppers founder, Anna Kennedy said: “The growth we have experienced in the last two years has been incredible. In addition to expanding production, we have been able to diversify our products and have also recruited another member of staff.”
Strathclyde Business Park is managed by UK Steel Enterprise (UKSE) - a Tata Steel subsidiary aimed at furthering economic prosperity in former steel producing communities.
Jackie Taylor, property administrator at UKSE, said; “It’s fantastic to see one of our tenants achieve such growth for their business. Helping businesses achieve their full potential is at the root of what we do at UKSE, and our premises are perfect for organisations just starting out or looking to expand. Our easy-in, easy-out policy means businesses are not tied down to long leases and every tenant has 24-hour access and use of our state of the art meeting room.”
