Commercial cleaning firm launches franchise model

An Aberdeen-headquartered commercial cleaning and facilities management firm has launched a franchise model just months after finalising a management buyout.

Tidy Green Clean (TGC) has secured a deal with its first franchisee with a £65k investment to manage the Aberdeen South sector for the business.

TGC owners Andrew Alleway and David Moncur bought the existing business from Ecoclean in July this year and they currently boast 80 clients across the area and employ a team of 60 office and cleaning staff.

The firm provides environmentally friendly commercial cleaning and facilities management support to a range of industries, including energy, healthcare, hospitality and professional services.

With a current turnover in excess of £1m, the owners have launched a franchise model to boost turnover to more than £10m in the next six years.

Grant Peterkin, from Stonehaven, who previously held a managerial role for nine years, has secured the first franchise deal and joins TGC as master franchisee for the Aberdeen south sector, with 12 clients and seven staff set to move over from the main business.

The firm has a further two franchise opportunities available for Aberdeen central and north and an additional nine deals across Scotland.

Alleway, who has franchising experience from his previous business in New Zealand, said: “When we completed the management buyout earlier this year we had a clear vision at that stage that we wanted to launch the franchise model into the business by the end of this year.  Grant’s experience in operations and customer care from his previous role ensures he has the right skills to take on the first franchise and work to grow that business for his own benefit in the future.”

Taking on the franchise, Grant has secured exclusive rights to operate in the Aberdeen south territory and increase the client base whilst receiving administration, licensing and marketing support from the TGC head office.

He said: “The environmental approach by TGC was a key factor in peaking my interest to invest in building my own business and helping other franchisees in the future.  The investment gives me the focus and the drive to create a substantial business in my territory and create a better life for me and my family.”

The next six months will see TGC secure additional franchisees with a focus on Aberdeen and Dundee initially before targeting further south.  As the franchise model grows, more jobs will be created across the North-east and further afield.
