Glasgow community projects awarded over £4m

Glasgow City Council has confirmed millions of pounds worth of funding for community projects in Elderpark, Pollokshields and Provanhall, as well as for the refurbishment of the Citizens Theatre.

The council’s City Administration Committee approved the acceptance of this funding for the 2017/18 financial year - from the Scottish Government’s Regeneration Capital Grant Fund (RCGF) - after the council had submitted bids working in partnership with the projects.

The council was asked to accept RCGF awards for Elderpark Community Centre, with Elderpark Housing Association, a new community hub in East Pollokshields, with Southside Housing Association, and Seven Lochs-Easterhouse Community Gateway in Provanhall, with Glasgow and Clyde Valley Green Network.

The council, in partnership with the Citizens Theatre and other organisations, also submitted an application to the RCGF on behalf of Transforming Communities: Glasgow (TC:G) in relation to the redevelopment of the theatre. The project was awarded £2.5m by the RCGF, an award accepted by the TC:G board.

Councillor Kenny McLean, city convener for neighbourhoods, housing and public realm at Glasgow City Council and Chair of Transforming Communities: Glasgow, said: “These awards will help to deliver key regeneration projects in different areas of the city, and I am delighted to see the hard work of the council and our partners bearing fruit in this way. Communities across Glasgow will benefit from these projects in many ways when they are complete.”
