Vintage specialist Scaramanga has seen its products used in the latest celebrity special of Channel 4 game show The Crystal Maze.
Last Friday’s episode saw Dame Kelly Holmes unhook Scaramanga vintage iron keys from a board in the Medieval Zone but fail to find the right ones to unlock two Scaramanga padlocks securing a 100-year-old storage chest also provided by the company.
The show also bought a second antique storage chest which has a secret compartment as well as seven more padlocks for use in later episodes.
This is not Scaramanga’s first foray into the world of film and television, the company supplied vintage padlocks to Paddington 2, The Hobbit, Pan and Celebrity Big Brother 2016. Scaramanga’s wooden chests were also used in the Legend of Tarzan movie two years ago.
The company, which also sells its bags, vintage furniture and homewares online and in its Cupar store, has also been used as a supplier of vintage and antique props for TV shows including Strictly Come Dancing, Celebrity Big Brother, Peaky Blinders, Jericho, Hollyoaks, 60 Minute Makeover and The Only Way Is Essex.
Speaking about the firm’s latest TV role, Carl Morenikeji said: “I was delighted to see our products play a key role in the show’s Medieval Zone.
“I didn’t have a clue how they’d be used as that’s a closely-guarded secret and I had to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement to not reveal any details about our involvement until the show aired.
“When I founded Scaramanga 12 years ago I never imagined that by now our reputation for original vintage and antique items, as well as our own bags, would be so good we’d become the first-choice supplier for so many leading TV and movie props buyers.”
