Scotland House member, Robert Hokin, chief executive and managing partner of Greenbackers Investment Capital tells BQ about his business and why he recommends Scotland House to others.
What is it your company does, and what makes it special?
Greenbackers are funding specialists for growth company finance in the cleantech (green technology, innovation and projects) sector. We are investors, funding advisors, investment coaches and run a technology-to-investor pitch in London at Scotland House.
Although our activities are global, we definitely ‘lean in’ to Scottish based business. Glasgow-based ourselves, we are keen advocates of Scottish heritage in engineering, some of the best in the world. We work with Scottish Government and related agencies such as Scottish Enterprise, Highland & Islands E’prise, Zero Waste Scotland, Entrepreneurial Scotland and Scotland CanDo.
Why did you join Scotland House and what do you use it for?
Having such a central London location without big overheads was very compelling. We are running a quarterly technology-to-investor pitch from Scotland House.
What has it done for your business?
It’s a very pleasant and conducive space to work from; the support staff are great. As the rest of my team are located around the country, I see them more often in London than in Glasgow. And the free coffee helps!
What would you say to a Scottish business considering membership?
For us it’s been an absolute no-brainer. Do it: you have nothing to lose and a great deal to gain.
