Harris Aslam, director of Eros Retail
Eros Retail, a family-run business which operates a chain of convenience stores under the ‘Greens’ banner across Scotland, has expanded its offering following a £945,000 financial package from HSBC UK.
The award-winning business was founded in 1982 and offers grocery, food-to-go, bakery and post office facilities to local communities.
The company recently opened its ninth store in Cardenden, Fife, and aims to open two more Greens stores by April this year, opening a total of five new stores using the funding package.
Eros Retail currently employs 145 staff members across Scotland and plans to increase this number to around 200 with the opening of its new stores. As well as the standard Greens stores, the business also operates Greens Local, a value store offering and Little Greens, which has an extensive food-to-go focus to appeal to passing trade.
Eros Retail won the Grocer Gold Award for Independent Retail Chain of the Year in 2018. The business also promotes healthy eating initiatives in partnership with the Scottish Grocers’ Federation (SGF) Healthy Living Programme and focuses on partnerships with local suppliers and supporting local produce. Fresh and craft products in particular are proving to be firm customer favourites.
Harris Aslam, director of Eros Retail, said: “We pride ourselves on creating a unique shopping experience for our customers and wanted to work with a bank that understood our business ambitions. We’re looking forward to furthering this growth in a sustainable manner with the support of HSBC UK.”
Susan Rowand, head of business banking for HSBC UK in Scotland, said: “We’re thrilled to support Eros Retail as it continues to meet an increasing demand for access to quality products and customer service in local communities despite a challenging market for retailers.”
If you’re a small or medium sized business based in Scotland, you can now access a newly launched loan capital fund which is part of the Scottish Growth Scheme.
The £12m fund, part funded by the EU, helps accelerate the growth of businesses in Scotland, complementing other private and public sector forms of funding.
