Jamie Birse-Stewart , founder of Aeon Geoscience
Geologist and founder of Edinburgh-based Aeon Geoscience Systems, Jamie Birse-Stewart, has developed an integrated and innovative, cloud platform to replace outdated IT systems used by companies in the oil and gas sector, designed to reduce costs and increase productivity.
Jamie, who graduated from Aberdeen University with a Bachelor of Science (BSc), focused in Geology and Petroleum Geology, has been working on his innovative software since 2016 thanks to ongoing support from Business Gateway Edinburgh who helped him to secure an Innovation Support Grant.
Additionally, Jamie who has combined his experience of subsurface data and new advancements in digital technology to produce the geoscience software, was chosen by Business Gateway Edinburgh to take part in its Gateway to Investment, (GTI), programme, which provided the opportunity for him to pitch his cloud software solution to investors.
The platform collates and links multiple different data types, automatically within one platform, integrating everything from drilling data and maps to images and documents, which previously required a range of different software and significant time to source and review.
Jamie said: “Our software package is designed to make it easier for industry personnel to find data, in one place, resulting in a reduction of cost for companies in the oil and gas sector who currently use outdated systems and time is wasted sourcing information in various different places.
“The feedback we’ve had has been absolutely incredible, which is testament to the ongoing support from Business Gateway Edinburgh who have really helped us at each stage of the development process.
“Also, having the chance to take part in the GTI programme was invaluable as it gave us the opportunity to explore our business model. Often when a domain expert starts a new venture the concept and application come first and creating a business comes later. Being able to pitch to experienced investors was the perfect environment to strength test the business.
Following a recommendation by Business Gateway Edinburgh, the company has also been placed on Scottish Enterprise’s High Grown Venture programme for companies with high growth potential to help strengthen the support for Aeon in areas, including funding and mentorship.
Susan Harkins, Head of Business Gateway Edinburgh, said: “Jamie is a great example of someone with incredible talent, vision and determination to develop a much-needed solution for companies to be more efficient and profitable using cutting-edge technology.
“We have been delighted to help him over the years with 121 support, funding and getting him on to our invaluable GTI programme, which really gave him the chance to analyse and break down each part of his innovative software platform and get fantastic feedback from investors.”
