Michael Harkins with Richard Branson
Local entrepreneur Michael Harkins, founder of Turtle Pack, who’s innovative swimming aid for kids has been given the seal of approval by Richard Branson, attended West Lothian’s first-ever Enterprise Summit to share his story with local businesses from getting his idea off the ground to ongoing support from Business Gateway West Lothian, who hosted the event.
Michael was joined by Jacine Rutasikwa who founded West Lothian’s first rum distillers, Mattuga Distillers Ltd at the Howden Park Centre event last week (21st March) and Paul Gray, founder of the Hideaway Café at Beecraigs Country Park who also shared their inspiring business journeys and learnings with the audience in a Q&A session.
Attendees also had the chance to take part in a finance workshop and ‘Marketing on a Shoestring’ taster workshop to encourage businesses at all stages to ensure they have an understanding of how to promote their business to their target audience on a limited budget.
Michael Harkins said: "It was a real honour to be invited as one of the guest speakers at the Business Gateway Enterprise Summit to share my journey with the local business community in West Lothian.
“I really enjoyed the event and hopefully my venture with Turtle Pack can inspire many more local entrepreneurs and encourage them to get as much guidance and support as possible from organisations like Business Gateway West Lothian who have been a great help to me since day one."
Cllr Cathy Muldoon, executive councillor for Development & Transport, said: “Our first-ever Enterprise Summit was a great way for people to hear first-hand from local inspiring entrepreneurs with thriving businesses on how they got started and get advice on everything from finding premises and funding to business planning and HR.
“It was also an opportunity for the team at Business Gateway West Lothian to showcase and highlight the wide breadth of free support and resources available to all businesses in the local area, which our panellists have received along the way and helped them to get where they are today.”
