Scottish family firm, Mclaggan, has released a new range of high-quality ceramic decorative baubles for customers in time for the festive season, following strategic support from Business Gateway.
Mclaggan, which is known for its wide range of bespoke and personalised bone china mugs available both online and in stores such as John Lewis, developed its latest product offering after the team accessed a variety of Business Gateway workshops and sessions.
The baubles, which were previously produced exclusively for the luxury hospitality market, including leading Scottish hotels such as the Gleneagles resort, will feature a variety of popular designs from both local and world-renowned designers and artists such as Orla Kiely and Sir Quentin Blake.
The company, which employs 22 people, accessed a wide range of support from Business Gateway, including digital business skills training via DigitalBoost, market research reports and an introduction to Scottish Enterprise who provided a grant to further develop their new product line.
Stuart Williams, Marketing Manager at Mclaggan said, “Like many businesses in Scotland, we are operating in a difficult retail environment and we're keen to develop a robust growth strategy to ensure our continued success. Business Gateway has been integral to this process, providing valuable advice and introductions as we prepared to diversify our range.
“The Business Gateway team gave us operational and logistical support and advised us of applicable grants, including a number of grants from West Dunbartonshire Council (WDC) which allowed us to make savings, improve the layout of our premises and invest in specialist printing equipment to facilitate the production of baubles at our site in Jamestown.
“Meanwhile, because overseas is a crucial market for us, the development of our digital marketing strategy through DigitalBoost has been essential and a WDC ICT grant has assisted towards the redevelopment of our website.”
Jane Murray, business adviser at Business Gateway West Dunbartonshire, stated: “It is well known that many Scottish businesses are facing a difficult retail environment. However, there are solutions to combat these challenges, whether that’s accessing support to develop a robust digital marketing strategy or advice about how to expand your product range so that your business can effectively target all relevant markets. It’s been a pleasure to see how this has been utilised in the case of Mclaggan and allowed the team to launch this latest line of fantastic products.”
