easyJet boosted by Christmas travellers

easyJet is expected to record its busiest day for festive flying in the company’s history today with 204,000 passengers flying on over 1,300 flights across the network.

Around 3,000 passengers are set to fly to and from Newcastle International Airport today and in the UK, 115,000 passengers are set to fly to or from easyJet’s UK airports toppling the record for the most passengers travelling with the airline on one day during Christmas.

A record 2.5 million passengers will fly with the airline between 17 December and 4 January with customers travelling early to avoid the last minute Christmas Eve rush.

From today until Christmas Eve, 135,000 passengers will travel domestically across the UK as they travel home to spend Christmas with their families.

Ali Gayward, easyJet’s UK commercial manager, said: “We are seeing high demand from Newcastle International Airport today as well as across our entire network of more than 810 routes.

“More people than ever before are flying either home or on holiday with us this Christmas in what will be our busiest Christmas ever.

“The Christmas period has always been one of our busiest times of year for our customers and this year will be no exception.

“Whether customers are flying to visit friends and family or incorporating skiing into their Christmas breaks by flying to Geneva and Grenoble, we are doing everything possible to make our customers’ Christmas travel as easy and of course, affordable as possible.”

Geneva, Alicante and Belfast top the list for some of the most popular destinations from Newcastle. Amsterdam and Geneva top the list of most popular destinations from the UK with customers taking the opportunity to explore some last minute Christmas markets or heading to the Alps and hitting the slopes, using the Swiss city as a gateway.

Paris is the fourth most popular destination with thousands of customers choosing to visit the French capital for Christmas.
