Birmingham to welcome first city centre IKEA

IKEA has revealed plans to open a brand new style of store in Birmingham City Centre, creating 30 new jobs.

The Scandinavian firm expects to open its new Birmingham Central Order and Collection Point, located at Dale End, in summer 2016.

The Order and Collection point is a new format for IKEA, and has been designed to bring the IKEA home furnishing range and expertise closer to more customers.

Primarily, the store will act as a planning studio for customers to design and order more complex purchases such as kitchens, wardrobes and sofas, however it will also feature IKEA room sets and workers offering home furnishing knowledge and advice.

IKEA order and collection development manager, Jack Jackson, said: “We are really excited to be bringing this unique new format to Birmingham, our first Order and Collection Point based in a city Centre location.

“With less than 5 minutes from the 3 main rail stations and close to regional bus network hubs we want to make our products and services available to more people.

"By introducing an Order and Collection Point in this market we want to bridge the gap between online and in-store shopping and offer customers a new way to shop with IKEA.”

IKEA Birmingham Central will not carry the full product range; however customers will be able to order from the full range for full delivery or for collection at the collection point.

The store will also feature a small range of ‘markethall’ items, a bistro and designated parking bays for customers who want to make use of the stores drive-in collection point.
