Growth Hub fuels BFS expansion

Birmingham-based builders merchants BFS Building & Garden Supplies is set for further growth after being supported by the Greater Birmingham Growth Hub.

BFS contacted the Greater Birmingham Growth Hub looking for more information about marketing.

The company’s owner, Harjit Sembhi, has several years’ experience within the sector. While the shop is based in a busy location and doing well, Sembhi wanted to promote his business further.

The Growth Hub team spoke with him in detail about his requirements and how he wanted the business to develop.

After identifying that Sembhi needed specialist marketing advice, he was referred to GetSet for Growth, a funded programme that offers marketing and finance support to SMEs in the West Midlands.

Clare Mckee, senior marketing advisor from GetSet For Growth, worked closely with Sembhi to create a new website for BFS, develop an online marketing strategy and introduce a loyalty scheme.

Sembhi said: “The Growth Hub and GetSet for Growth have provided me with really valuable guidance.

"Their support has enabled me to showcase BFS in a better way, by creating a more strategic marketing plan for the business.

"I’ve been able to create a customer database and plan all of my forthcoming advertising too. My business has a much stronger future thanks to the Growth Hub and GetSet for Growth.”

Ian Mclaughlan, manager of the Growth Hub, added: “The Greater Birmingham and Solihull Growth Hub has worked with businesses spanning a range of sectors and experience levels. Building merchants BFS, is just one example of a business going from strength to strength following our support.

“The Growth Hub plays an important role in promoting enterprise in the region by ensuring businesses can access the national and local support they need to succeed. In just its first six months, the Growth Hub has dealt with nearly 4,000 enquiries and made 550 referrals to partners. We’re seeing tangible results and encourage more entrepreneurs to pick up the phone to find out exactly what business support is available to them in the region."
