New businesses pop-up in Shropshire

Budding entrepreneurs have been given the opportunity to bring their business ideas to life in a new initiative launched at Wellington Market, in Shropshire.

The PopUp Pitch has created what is thought to be the first dedicated area for local start-ups and pop-up business stalls in the area.

The initiative had its inaugural day on 17 May which brought 20 new traders to town, including Shropshire Salumi, South Hill Jewellery, Fernandes Macarons and Organik Orangutan.

After his first day as part of PopUp Pitch, business owner Jason Fernandes said: “A massive thank you for yesterday. It was a really enjoyable day and I loved all the networking with other Traders.

“I have also taken follow up business calls this morning as a consequence of being at the PopUp Pitch”

PopUp Pitch is the brainchild of Fay Easton, a Shropshire-based entrepreneur, working with the owners of Wellington Market, WMC Retail Partners Plc

Ms Easton said: “Many of today’s big retail names famously started business on market stalls including Iceland, Monsoon, Poundland and Marks and Spencer. We’re hoping to launch a few world class success stories of our own!”

Andrew Sparrow, an executive director at WMC Retail Partners Plc, added: “We are very pleased to be working with Fay on this exciting project.

“This new retail offer for the town centre is designed to support the next generation of entrepreneurs, as well as broaden the market’s appeal for our local residents and visitors from further afield.”
